There is something with us, that compels us to make a stand for what we believe in...

 "Right of passage" is a cinematic documentary about a woman's journey to preserve her cultural heritage of Indian indentured workers to Fiji, she seeks her own right of passage.


Shivani’s  journey is about the influence and empowering values of ancestry, culture and how women in our lives, past and present, uphold aspects of culture from generation to generation. This stand was for the generations before her and a powerful message for generations ahead. 


 PEOPLE HAVE BEEN MOVING AROUND THE WORLD THROUGHOUT HISTORY. SOME MOVE TO CONQUER, WHILE OTHERS HAVE BEEN MADE TO MOVE.  


 RIGHT OF PASSAGE IS THE ABILITY TO CARRY OUR CULTURE ALONG WITH US.

 Shivani Karan, is the writer, director and the voice of "Right of passage". Her experiences have had a lasting impact that gave her the a strong resolve to advocate for human rights and to help others. She wants to empower others with her story and in turn wants to help share the unfiltered stories of others.

Kailani Bayot is the co-producer of "Right of passage" films. She is also a mother and philanthropist. She founded the nonprofit organisation Mama Earth with a vision to provide people with the opportunity to making a difference through music, dance and art.

Haze is the producer and composer for “Right of passage”. Grammy and  ASCAP award winning music producer and music technology inventor from San Diego, California. 

I AM FROM THE SUN

This is a Right of Passage films production that continues to give voice to the unheard. In 2018 MAMA EARTH initiative Project OM  began working with teenage girls taken from their families at the US Mexico border.  This is one of the poems and illustrations written by a young border detainee. We dedicate this to #Jakelin Amei Rosmery Caal Maquin and all the children from the sun.
